The moment seems to have finally come: WhatsApp multi-device is the new feature one step away from release . To say this is WABetaInfo with an article in which it confirms that the long-awaited feature is being tested.

The developers and researchers of the group followed the development of the update and announced that the tests have reached the final phase, before betatesting.

Multi-device WhatsApp and tests of the new functionality

Even if the release date has not been announced, we know that the multi-device functionality will arrive in the next beta of WhatsApp . The new feature will allow you to use the same account on different devices (maximum 4). The advantage lies in the fact that it will not be necessary to have the connection active on the main device , that is the one where the SIM of the phone number of the account is located.

This means that it will be possible to use WhatsApp desktop even without being connected from a smartphone or any other device. To use the function, however, it will be necessary to make a copy of the message history before being able to use the second device. There will therefore be an initial phase in which a WiFi connection is required to synchronize the chat history.

Once the chats have been copied, it will be possible to use the secondary devices, and the chats will always be synchronized between the different platforms . Each time a device is added or removed, the encryption key for chats will change, and all active conversations will be notified.

WhatsApp has also developed an iPad application that will allow you to use the messaging app on iPhone and iPad at the same time. The app will be available when the new feature is activated.

But how much is missing?

There is no official date yet for beta testing to begin, but there are some ready-made synchronization features that indicate that it is not long before release. In fact, on WhatsApp desktop it is already possible to synchronize chats, save messages as favorites and change chats.

The release date has not yet been formalized, but judging by the information made public we won’t have to wait much longer. The functionality is highly anticipated as it would make it more convenient to use the application from a PC and switch from one device to another.

The other WhatsApp news

Not just multi-device: WhatsApp has other interesting news ready for users . In addition to WhatsApp Pay, already available in Brazil and coming to Italy, other updates are ready for the near future. It will soon be possible to search for messages by date , making it easier to navigate the chat history.

The feature will in fact facilitate the search for messages, without the user having to scroll through entire conversations. In “search” mode the calendar icon will appear which will open a picker to choose the day from which to start searching for messages.

The user can also see how much memory the media occupy of each conversation . In test there is also the function of deleting entire chats except for messages marked as “favorites”.
