In the last few hours a video created with Unreal Engine 5 has been talking a lot, showing extreme accuracy and realism . The new version of the Epic Games graphics engine is conquering the web with the reproduction of a station in the Toyama prefecture, Japan, almost indistinguishable from the real one.
The engine at work
It was an Italian who created the incredible reproduction of the station : Lorenzo Drago used Unreal Engine 5 to reach an amazing level of photorealism. Drago, known on the internet as subjectn , is a 3D character and landscape artist. A few days ago he published on his Artstation page a video showing the result of his work with the latest version of the graphics engine.
The video takes her on a tour of Etchū-Daimon Station , Toyama Prefecture, showing it to us both day and night. The reproduction is extremely faithful to the original, but what is most striking is the realism of the result: the video is almost indistinguishable from reality.
As specified by the artist, the lighting was created with Lumen , the default one for Unreal Engine 5. The technology is based on ray tracing , an optical geometry technique in which the path of light is traced backwards, or by calculating the reflection and shine information starting from when it hits an object in the scene. It took the artist almost a month to create the scene.
However, this is a non -real-time video : it will be difficult to see these levels in video games. In any case, the result is truly surprising, despite the fact that, according to the author, it is not "particularly optimized". Drago used an RTX 2080 for rendering and the AMD Ryzen 7 3700x processor.
