In the past few years, for me, the most impressive new camera product was neither the new-generation flagship α1 from Sony, nor the Canon’s 50-megapixel EOS R5, nor the Fuji’s 100-megapixel affordable medium format GFX100S, but the Sigma fp.

Sigma fp has neither ultra-high pixels, nor ultra-high speed, and no leapfrog picture quality. At that time, the L-mount league lens group was not very rich, but it exuded the biggest feature of the Sigma brand. That is maverick.
From the very beginning, the Sigma brand camera was not a product for the masses. The Foven X3 sensor used desperately in the early days, making its products the best partner for tripods. Later, it was not until fp began to embrace the traditional Bayer sensor, but added the concept of "modularity" to the product form, becoming the smallest full-frame interchangeable lens mirrorless camera at that time.
It is also the size of fp that can fit in your pocket, which makes the Sigma brand out of the circle and become a new toy for many enthusiasts. Today, continuing to inherit the fp's mantle, Sigma has upgraded it and launched an fp L full-frame mirrorless camera.
The appearance of Sigma fp L is almost the same as fp, mainly to be compatible with fp's extended accessories. Also released with fp L is an external electronic viewfinder EVF-11, which has a 0.5-inch 3.68 million dot OLED screen and can be flipped upward, similar to previous Panasonic models.
The Sigma EVF-11 electronic viewfinder is connected to the body through a USB-C and HDMI mini. The EVF-11 body has an HDMI interface and a USB-C interface for external expansion, and also has an LCD/EVF switch.
Sigma fp L has a built-in 61 million pixel Bayer array full-frame sensor, which is the biggest upgrade compared to fp. However, in order to minimize the generation of moiré, Kenneng is also equipped with a low-pass filter, but Sigma said that due to the existence of ultra-high pixels, the low-pass filter will not affect the image quality. In addition, fp L also supports hybrid focusing with phase and contrast detection, which is also a big improvement for Sigma cameras.
Due to the existence of ultra-high pixels, the fp L machine can directly perform 2x and 5x digital cropping (including video), which is somewhat similar to current smart phones.
The Sigma fp L video capability has been increased to a maximum of 4K 30p 12bit internal recording, while the external recorder can record 12bit DCI 4K 24p RAW format, and supports CINEMA DNG, ProRes RAW and BLACKMAGIC RAW three video RAW format files.
Static and dynamic recording capabilities are the two biggest improvements of fp L, and other specifications are not much different from fp.
For example, fp L still does not have a mechanical shutter. The maximum flash sync speed of the electronic shutter is only 1/15s, and when you record 14bit RAW, the sync speed will be reduced to 1/10s. The fp L is also not equipped with mechanical anti-shake, it will support EIS electronic anti-shake when recording, although the effect is not bad, but there will be a certain percentage of picture cropping.
In addition to these core selling points, Sigma fp L also has some small features. It can generate a QR code for the settings of the fuselage, support uploading and sharing, and load complex settings through the QR code. In addition, fp L has added a variety of color modes such as "powder blue" and "dual tone". In terms of other parameters, the ISO range of Sigma fp L is 100~25600 (expandable to 6, 12, 25, 50, 51200, 102400); the electronic shutter can be up to 1/8000s; the 3.15-inch screen on the back has 2.1 million pixels. Support touch; the battery is BP-51, with a battery life of 240 cards.
Sigma fp L has not announced the price of the Bank of China at present, but it will go on sale in April. Here is the price in the United States as a reference. The fp L body is 2499 US dollars (about 16,300 yuan), with EVF-11 The kit is 2999 US dollars (about 19,500 yuan), EVF-11 is priced at 699 US dollars (about 4600 yuan), EVF-11 is compatible with fp and fp L. The 60-megapixel full-frame pocket camera sounds pretty good. Even after watching the Sigma conference, there is an urge to throw the Sony α7R4 directly into the trash can. However, calm down, and carefully check the specifications of fp L, and found that it is quite similar to the positioning of fp, using 60 million pixels is still not an "innovative" product.
Sigma fp L has 60 million ultra-high pixels, but it only has the highest flash sync speed of 1/10s (14bit RAW). It also has no mechanical anti-shake, and it does not support 4K 60p video. In summary, it is not suitable for studio shooting, street sweeping and video main machine, or "productivity" tool to use, there are better products on the market, it is more like a big toy for hobbyists.
But having said that, the price of Sigma fp L is only about 16,000 (the Bank of China may be 15,000), which should be the cheapest ultra-high pixel full-frame system. In this way, it seems that the flash sync speed is not high and there is no machinery. The disadvantages of shutter and lack of 4K 60p seem to be tolerable. At this time, Teacher Liang’s famous saying rang in my ear again: Buy it, it's not expensive.
