Samsung Galaxy S21 5G series debut: the camera design is very eye-catching, the super cup can simultaneously open 2K+120Hz
This year's flagship did come very early. On the evening of January 14, Samsung held a global press conference and officially launched the Galaxy S21 5G series of flagship phones.
Samsung Galaxy S21 5G series, as usual, has three models, namely S21 5G, S21+ 5G and S21 Ultra 5G. We also have a hands-on experience with these three phones for the first time.
In the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G series, in fact, compared with the changes in internal functions, the first and most obvious part that can be felt is the design change.
The renderings of the Samsung S21 5G series were actually exposed earlier, but most people were in a dubious state when they were first exposed, because the design this time was indeed a bit "eye-catching." The reason is naturally the use of a brand-new camera matrix design, which looks like a patch, completely covering the upper left corner of the back of the fuselage.
Let's start with this very unusual camera module design.
Where are the irregularities? Simply put, Samsung has made the middle frame part and the camera module into an almost integrated design. If you don't pay attention to it, it is difficult to find that there is actually a seam. That is to say, the middle frame of the camera part in the upper left corner looks very thick and completely covers the camera module.
This design has a high degree of uniqueness and recognition in the back design of today's mobile phones, and you can tell from a distance that this is a Samsung S21 series mobile phone. With the development of mobile phones to this day, the importance of recognition has long been self-evident.
Judging from my own aesthetic style, the design of this camera module is definitely not a "first-sighted beauty", because Samsung's designers did not follow the conventional camera module design, and it is naturally difficult to judge it in the first place. , But I don’t find it ugly, but it may take a little time to get used to it.
This design is also not very good, that is, it really feels too thick to look at the middle frame from the camera, and it even reminds me of some old full-keyboard phones.
However, in terms of body thickness, the S21 5G series has basically maintained the same level as the previous generation. The smallest S21 5G has a body thickness of 7.9mm, and the S21+ 5G has a thickness of 7.8mm, which is consistent with the previous generation of the S20 series. Only the S21 Ultra 5G has slightly increased from 8.8mm to 8.9mm. So in terms of grip, there is no change in this aspect.
However, it is worth noting that both S21 5G and S21+ 5G are slightly wider than the previous generation. In particular, the width of S21 5G has increased from the original 69.1mm to 71.2 mm, breaking the 70mm mark.
However, all S21 5G series have become heavier in terms of weight. According to the official information (Sub-6 version, millimeter wave version will weigh 2g) S21 weighs 169g, which is still quite thin, S21+ 5G has reached 200g, and S21 Ultra is 227g.
According to past performance, Samsung's flagship mobile phone has always been very good in the hand. S21 5G is still very thin and light, and a bit heavier than S20 5G may be the reason for the camera module design, but the grip is still very good, with 6.2 inches The screen can actually achieve a relatively balanced state, and personally feel that it is actually similar to the iPhone 12 (7.4mm thick, 162g weight).
If you fancy the comfort of holding, then choosing S21 5G is definitely the best choice. But it should be noted that the backplane of S21 5G is not made of glass but plastic. Not only is it not as translucent as glass in appearance, but it also feels slightly jerky.
S21+ 5G and S21 Ulta 5G are both Corning Gorilla Glass backplanes. They look great when the light is good. I believe you have seen a lot of real machine pictures today.
Purple is a special color version of the S21 5G series, and it uses a contrasting color design. The camera part continues the copper gold of the middle frame, and the back panel is purple. At the same time, texture collage and color contrast are formed, so the overall look and feel will be more special.
In terms of color matching, S21 5G and S21+ 5G have three color combinations, S21 5G is white, purple, and black respectively, and S21+5G is purple, black, and silver. The S21 Ultra 5G is only available in black and silver.
S21 5G personally prefer white because purple has a slightly worse texture than S21+ 5G. For S21+ 5G, both purple and silver look good. S21 Ultra 5G has a larger overall weight, so black will be a bit dull, and silver is better looking and more vibrant.
S21 5G is equipped with a 6.2-inch screen, while S21+ 5G is equipped with a 6.7-inch screen. Let's talk about these two together.
This time, the S21 5G brothers are no longer the previous generation of micro-curved design, but completely changed to a straight screen. The best thing after switching to a straight screen is to solve the problem of accidental touch of the curved screen, especially when lying down and playing with the mobile phone, the anti-inadvertent performance of the straight screen will be much better than that of the curved screen.
Of course, changing to a straight screen will also pay a little price, for example, there is no sense of exquisiteness that is drawn in on both sides of the curved screen. This may also be the reason why the width has increased a little.
The form is still the second-generation Dynamic AMOLED screen with a center-mounted hole, which supports a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 2400×1080. Maybe the friends have found that the screen resolution has been reduced this time and is no longer 1440p. .
But looking back, Samsung has not been able to enable 120Hz and 1440p resolution at the same time before. Users can only choose one of the two. In the end, they will enjoy either 120Hz or high resolution. Now Samsung has just finally made a decision, thinking that the refresh rate is still more important than the resolution, and users don't have to worry about this anymore.
The resolution has dropped, but the screen specifications have improved. Now the maximum brightness has reached 1300 nits, and the contrast has also improved, but the numbers are of little significance for OLED screens.
Why the S21 Ultra 5G was taken out alone is naturally because only this "super big cup" retains the features just mentioned. It is equipped with a 6.8-inch second-generation Dynamic AMOLED screen with a micro-curved design and a resolution of 3200× 1440, peak brightness of 1500nit, supports 10-120Hz dynamic variable refresh rate LTPO screen.
Also in this "Super Cup". Samsung finally allows you to turn on 1440p WQHD+ resolution and adaptive 120Hz refresh rate at the same time. What can I say, Xi Da Pu Ben.
Overall, judging from the screen, Samsung has not disappointed people over the years. And this screen on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is perhaps the best mobile phone screen you can see.
The photo was put at the end and it was said that it was actually because this time I did not test the part of the photo, so there is not much to talk about, so let's introduce the specifications first.
Both S21 5G and S21+ 5G are equipped with a rear three-camera design. The main camera and ultra-wide angle are 12 million pixels, and the telephoto is a 64 million pixel lens that can achieve 3x hybrid optical zoom. A front of 10 million pixels is used.
The camera part of the S21 Ultra 5G is even more exaggerated, using a rear four-camera design, of which the ultra-wide angle is still 12 million pixels, the main camera retains the 100 million pixel specification, and supports 9-in-1 pixels. There are two telephotos this time, the first is a 10 million pixel lens with 3x optical zoom, and the other is a 10 million pixel lens with 10x optical zoom. It supports up to 100x zoom.
The main camera and the two telephoto lenses have OIS optical image stabilization. The front is 40 million pixels.
This time we added a few more good features, such as the director’s perspective, which allows users to choose from three cameras at the same time, and can also record at the same time before and after. Of course, this feature has also appeared on other mobile phones.
In addition, when the telephoto shooting is started, the image is easy to shake when zooming in to high magnification. At this time, click the small preview screen or hold it for about two seconds, the small preview screen will turn yellow, which is the trigger of the "focus lock" ”Function, then shooting will be more stable.
As for the image quality performance of different lenses, and more in-depth content, it will be shown in the follow-up evaluation. In addition, the Bank of China will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, but the specific performance on the S21 5G series will have to wait for more detailed experience in the future.
In other parts, the battery capacity of the S21 5G is the same as that of the S20 5G, which is 4000mAh, the S21+ 5G has slightly increased to 4800mAh, and the S21 Ultra 5G is also 5000mAh. Generally speaking, they are not much different from the previous generation.
In addition, the charging power and other data were not mentioned during this experience. In fact, all S21 5G systems are charged at 25W. Compared with the previous generation, there is no change. In fact, S20 Ultra 5G supports 45W charging, but in the second half of the year The Note20 5G series is all 25W again.
So in terms of charging speed, it should be at least the same as before. Samsung's 25W is already the fastest 25W. The specific measured data can wait for the evaluation content afterwards.
By the way, Samsung also let S21 Ultra 5G support S-Pen this time. Of course, it is not built-in the body like the Note20 5G series, but has introduced a protective case accessory. The S-Pen can be stored on the side of the protective case.
Due to the limited space inside the machine, the stylus of the Note series has always been small. Although it is easy to use, it is not particularly comfortable. This S-Pen is longer and feels significantly better when used.
However, the Note series still maintains many unique features about S-Pen, because S21 Ultra 5G supports this and S-Pen does not support Bluetooth. It cannot be paired with a mobile phone. Naturally, there is no way to operate in air. The buttons on the pen The only function currently is to be used as an eraser.
However, those functions that require the actual touch of the pen can be supported, such as screen writing, note-taking functions, etc., can be completed with this pen, and can be stored in the protective case after writing.
In general, the first impression of the Samsung S21 5G series is quite good. Both the industrial design and the feel have maintained the high level of the previous generation.
But on the other hand, in some respects, Samsung also has some skills to reduce emissions. For example, the two screens other than S21 Ultra 5G have become FHD+ and have also become direct screens. The gap with S21 Ultra 5G is even greater. This point may also be reflected in the pricing.
The reason for doing this may be to make the market positioning more accurate. Those who like the light and thin feel will have a certain compromise on the screen, but at the same time it can reduce the burden of battery life. And the only one that is identified as the true flagship is designated "super large." Cup", I will give you the best in every respect.
As for the price and the SKU version of the Bank of China, it will not be known until the press conference in China. I believe it will not be too long.
Finally, if you have any questions about the Samsung S21 5G series, please leave a message in the comment area. We will answer after more experience.
