OnePlus Watch coming soon: everything we know about the first smartwatch
That the Chinese company aims at a real ecosystem is certainly not a secret and the company itself has talked about it . There are details that leave us thinking a lot, such as the exclusive features for OnePlus devices dedicated to TWS Buds headphones , which underline the direction taken by the brand. Furthermore, the launch of the Nord family underlines the desire to break away from the high-end market alone, opening up to an ever wider audience. And in a technological ecosystem, a smartwatch like OnePlus Watch cannot be missing.
According to the latest rumors there could even be two smartwatches: a standard signed as W301GB and also a Watch RX model signed as W501GB. These have appeared in the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification documents. The name of this alleged variant can only be linked to OPPO Watch RX , marking yet another link between the two companies. However, to date we have no concrete rumors about this RX.
Design and display
The device would have already been certified by the Singapore IMDA, complete with a model number ( W301GB ). Speaking instead of possible design and screen, OnePlus Watch should have a circular display on its side and therefore a very different look from that of its OPPO cousin .
Meanwhile, a German media unearthed sketches filed for OnePlus Watch at the German Patent and Trademark Office . In the documents there are images of the smartwatch which, although they are not final renderings, would reveal its features. Take them with a grain of salt, though, as they come from a source we’ve never heard of until now. We see the round dial confirmed, taking up what was said from the first rumors. The design is quite canonical, with two buttons on the right frame with which to manage the UI, while on the back there are the sensors for measuring biometric data.
There is also another set of images, again referring to OnePlus Watch but with a slightly different design for the strap. Could this be some sort of sport variant , perhaps the OnePlus Watch RX mentioned earlier?
Meanwhile, leaker Ishan Agarwal shared some characteristics of the wearable. OnePlus Watch should arrive with a diameter of 46 mm and have an IP68 waterproof body, therefore more than suitable for swimming and diving. We then talk about two colors, Silver and Black .
To make it even more interesting, OnePlus has published an official video dedicated to its wearable in which you can see both the silicone strap characterized by a rough texture, similar to what is seen in the sketches above, and the round display.
Hardware and functionality
OnePlus Watch should have from its 4 GB of storage and above all support for Warp Charge fast charging, which should guarantee a week of use compared to a recharge of only 20 minutes. The battery could be a 420 mAh unit, as the certification received by the TÜV body reveals.
As for fitness and health, it will offer automatic training detection , various sports modes , monitoring of heart activity and sleep , stress and blood oxygen level ( SpO2 ). The roundup of information also concerns the various functions: we talk about the possibility of managing calls, notifications and music playback, as well as being able to remotely control the OnePlus TV . It seems that we will have both an LTE version and one without telephone connectivity.
Since CEO Pete Lau confirmed the arrival of OnePlus Watch, there have been various rumors about the operating system on board. Previously, the company had already specified that WearOS’s presence was far from safe. OnePlus and Google would have been working on improving the smartwatch OS, but wasn’t 100% sure it would be used. A hypothesis that is now a reality: the CEO has confirmed that there will be no WearOS , but a proprietary system .
“ We chose to use an RTOS smart wear OS because we believe it should provide a smooth and reliable experience while delivering exceptional battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we’ve heard from people looking to buy a smartwatch. ”
Always Pete has published a video teaser, in which some users see a reference to a possible OxygenOS Wear (name not yet confirmed).
Oneplus Watch: rumors about price and release
There is no official date yet, but it seems quite obvious that the launch of OnePlus Watch can take place concurrently with that of OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro . The appointment, therefore, would be set for 23 March .
To make it even more spicy, the company has launched a really nice contest: looking at the teaser you have to guess what product it is … but giving the wrong answer ! For all the details and the hilarious answers from users take a look at the dedicated thread .
