Nut R2 experience: Before using the Nut phone, learn to be a Nut user
When the Nut Pro was released three years ago, Nuts himself used to evaluate this phone as "smooth and sharp in the era". Although the subsequent two Nut Pro series are not as sharp, they have maintained the vertical middle frame design.
The previous generation of Nuts R2 wanted to produce Nuts R1 and return to the Beijing Bird’s Nest where it rained in 2018. Nuts R1 is still considered to be Hammer Technology, or one of the most outstanding products in the history of Nuts mobile phones, only under TNT. The light of the product itself has been ignored.
Now that JMGO R2 is released, will it be better? Let's take a look.
When the vertical middle frame meets the hyperboloid
From the overall appearance, the Nut R2 maintains 80% of the characteristics of the Nut Pro 3 last year, such as the red hammer icon in the lower left corner. This icon uses a new technology, so that the hammer pattern inside looks like it is suspended in the middle of the glass. It's a pity that compared to last year's luminous breathing light design, this year's icon is completely decorative, and English without Smartisan seems to be missing.
Let me talk about the good things first. The texture and feel of the back are good overall. The edges are designed with four curved surfaces, but the middle frame is still vertical, and the overall feel is still biased towards the "glass brick" feel. Although it is slightly thicker than the current mainstream mobile phones, it should be very familiar to the old users of the Nut mobile phone.
But when I turned to the front, I couldn't understand it. The biggest confusion was caused by the screen. This is a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED screen from China Star Optoelectronics. After bidding farewell to Visionox's Delta arrangement, the display effect of Nut R2 is much better than Nut Pro 3. Of course, this is also a very standard digging screen. Just like we saw on Mi 10 in February this year.
The resolution is 2340×1080, the diamond-like arrangement, and the delicacy and brightness are sufficient, and finally a high refresh rate of 90Hz. Although slightly lower than the current 120Hz products, the overall quality of the flexible screen is still good. However, as a small brand, the JMGO mobile phone does not have the ability to adjust the color of each screen individually. In fact, even the color display mode of JMGO R2 is hidden in the auxiliary function. This shows that the JMGO team has limited manpower on the one hand. On the other hand, it also shows that Nuts does not have the control of large companies in the supply chain.
Due to the curved screen, but the middle frame is still vertical, JMGO R2 had to put a layer of plastic wrap between the screen and the frame to eliminate the contradiction between the curved surface and the vertical, and the buffer should be wide enough. It plays a role, so it is indeed a bit strange visually, but it seems that many people think that this design is very special and praised. The benevolent should see it.
While other phones are increasingly reducing the side buttons, the JMGO R2 still retains a total of five independent buttons on the left and right sides. The volume and power buttons are on the right, and the flash capsule and a new lever button are on the left. This lever can achieve some very interesting functions, we will talk about it later. The only pity is that the flash capsule and the power button are no longer symmetrical.
The overall design of the fuselage is basically like this, there must be some unsatisfactory places and compromises, but obviously in today's highly developed industry, it is not realistic to require niche brands to completely uncompromise the appearance of products and can maintain themselves The characteristics of the mobile phone are not easy, the Nut mobile phone team also said that their essence is a software-driven brand.
Then let's talk about the software, which is the Smartisan OS system.
Added "Time Capsule", still talking about efficiency
When the Nut R2 is officially launched, it should be equipped with Smartisan OS 8.0.1, which is based on Android 10. Compared with the 7.0 version, there are many detailed optimizations and adjustments.
A major feature of domestic mobile phones this year is that the system has changed greatly. Whether it is MIUI12, ColorOS11, EMUI11, hydrogen OS11, or even the system that has been criticized for vivo, this year has made great progress in visual style and dynamic effects. The transition animation effect combined with the high refresh rate screen has become a cornerstone of subtly changing the user experience this year.
But this change does not apply to Nuts phones, because Smartisan OS has a completely own logic in the overall visual style and animation effects. It is completely inappropriate to use it to set Google’s animation effects. It is said that Smartisan OS can't keep up with the times. What is really interested in this system is not because of its unique style.
So while others are selling motion and customization, the Nut mobile phone is still cultivating its three-piece efficiency tools-"One Step", "Big Bang", and "Flash Capsule".
The big bang update is relatively small and detailed, so I will skip it here. When the one-step function was launched last year when the front-end multitasking split screen was launched, it was only able to support split screen applications for vertical screen use. That is to say, applications that require horizontal screen use like many games cannot split screens. Now games and horizontal screens The live broadcast can also be used in split screens, and the utilization rate has been improved.
The key update, and what made Zhu Haizhou spend a lot of effort to explain, is the new "time capsule" function of "Shannian Capsule".
The usage and metaphor of "Time Capsule" cannot be said to be very complicated. In fact, it is to record the content generated by your operation within a certain period of time, such as text copied in WeChat reading, pictures saved in web pages, suddenly come Inspiration and voice recorded with the flash capsule, etc. The system will extract these effective content from different application pools and then concentrate them in the "time capsule" in the order of time.
However, the premise of the application of this function is that you are a "producer" and will produce a certain amount of effective production materials in a short time. In this way, the "time capsule" can collect enough content to achieve the goal of "no need to organize". The second premise is that if you are a user of "Flash Capsule" and understand and understand all the usage logic of this function, if you can't remember to use this function, you won't be able to talk about it later.
By the way, Zhu Haizhou also said that the time backtracking function will be added to this time capsule in the future. Being able to go back to the content of your operations an hour ago, this sounds pretty awesome, but as a screen operation recording function, you may need to pay attention to privacy issues.
In fact, efficiency tools such as Smartisan OS are currently stacking higher and higher thresholds, with more and more functional branches, and when it becomes more and more complex, it is likely that it is impossible for a new user to start. You can't develop the habit of using these tools, and the cost of learning is still a bit high.
But as long as you force to use and master these functions and form a habit, there is a high probability that these tools are the unique "efficiency artifacts" of the Nut mobile phone.
The JMGO R2 has four rear cameras. The main camera is a 100-megapixel S5KHMX sensor with a large bottom and high pixels, but coma is difficult to control. The secondary camera is an 8-megapixel lens with 3x optical zoom and a 13-megapixel ultra The wide-angle has a field of view close to 120°, and finally there is a 5-megapixel macro lens.
The weather was bad when shooting, here is the proof:
Generally speaking, the quality of photos is greatly improved compared to previous models. The addition of night scene mode makes low-light shooting available, but after all, it is not a mobile phone that is good at taking photos. Color control and white balance can be improved. some.
In other respects, the JMGO R2 supports 55W wired charging, which can be fully charged in forty minutes, but does not support wireless charging.
Is it just a "display" or a computer of the future?
TNT GO may be the most incomprehensible hardware yesterday. It's not that there was a disaster scene in the demo two years ago, but the product definition itself seems to be incompatible with the public's perception. The biggest contradiction is whether it is necessary to let the mobile phone have a built-in desktop operating system and input it on the display.
For the entire industry, this may be something that was done three years ago, five years ago, or even earlier, but today, it is generally "take a step back" and no longer try to use the built-in desktop environment of mobile phones, but Mobile applications are connected with notebooks through functions such as "multi-screen collaboration".
The appearance of TNT GO actually proved two things:
- Betting on the mobile terminal, and believes that these low-threshold, easy-to-use software on the mobile terminal can replace most people's demand for professional applications with the improvement of auxiliary capabilities such as AI. Trying to replace AE with Clipping is an example.
- As Zhu Haizhou said yesterday, they bet on the future and want to redefine personal computers. The Slogan of iPad Pro this year means "your next computer, why is it a computer". TNT GO actually means this too.
The ideal is full, but in actual use, you have to return to reality.
TNT GO is divided into two versions, wired version and wireless version. The wireless version supports the functions of the wired version, and both support exclusive stylus accessories. The overall combination is a two-in-one tablet, which looks eight to nine points similar to the Surface Pro.
However, due to the cost, there is still a certain gap between the details and the Surface. For example, the top of the bracket part needs to be glued with double-sided adhesive instead of an integrated design. The keyboard is also completely flat on the desktop, unable to magnetically lift the edge of the screen, which still has a certain impact on the typing feel.
There is also a groove hidden behind the bracket, you can hide the official cable here. The stylus can be attached to the top of TNT GO. The feel of the keyboard is in line with the performance under this thickness, and the feel will be a bit crisper, but there is no major problem. The touchpad area is not bad, the surface is made of glass, and the hand feels quite smooth.
However, the magnetic contact between the keyboard cover and the tablet is relatively ordinary, and it is a bit easy to fall off when I lift it up directly. Is it because I haven't used the 2-in-1 tablet for too long?
The tablet part is equipped with a 12-inch, 2K resolution 60Hz screen. Built-in a large battery of 10160mAh, so it is really not light in weight. However, since there is no calculation and storage unit, the thickness control itself is OK, but it will become thicker after sticking the bracket.
Generally speaking, regardless of whether the details are a bit short-lived, Nuts still made a decent thing. The only question is what is the actual experience when using it with a mobile phone.
Since TNT GO itself does not have a computing unit, it is completely dependent on the use of the TNT system built into the mobile phone. There are two USB-C ports in the lower right corner of TNT GO. The upper is the port for wired connection, and the lower is the charging port. Note that they cannot be mixed.
Before using it for the first time, you need to pair it with TNT GO. Connect the included cable to the phone and tablet. Just follow the prompts. After the pairing is successful, you can choose between wired or wireless connection according to your needs.
I tried the wireless connection first, this method of use will undoubtedly be more convenient. The first thing to say is that the wireless connection of TNT GO is very stable, and there is no black screen, disconnection, no response, etc. in the user experience. However, the wireless connection still limits the frame rate and delay, which means that the fluency is slightly worse. At the same time, there is a noticeable delay in the movement of the cursor. You need to deliberately slow down the rhythm when using it.
In addition, since the mobile phone does not support the wireless charging function, this workflow cannot be done elegantly by putting the JMGO R2 on the wireless charging board, which is a pity.
The wired connection will naturally be more stable, and the fluency has been significantly improved, and the delay has also been greatly improved. But I found that TNT may not be optimized for the cursor enough, and it still feels not fine enough when using the touchpad.
TNT OS 2.0 has indeed refactored many things, including a lot of local applications. I can feel that many applications that were originally more like the iPad version have now become more desktop environments. For example, Hammer Writing has a Ulysses flavor.
One area where the usability has been improved is that the browser’s performance and compatibility have good performance. For a two-in-one tablet, an easy-to-use browser is a very important tool. In fact, it is mobile like Weibo and Station B. When using TNT with more high-frequency applications, you can get a more suitable experience through the web version. I personally feel that the browsing experience of web page layout is better than that of Safari on the iPad. The rest is mobile apps like WeChat and Douyin.
It's easy to open third-party mobile apps on TNT GO in their original ratios. The difficult thing is to change the display ratios of these apps. TNT provides the function of changing the display ratio of some applications. The window size can also be dragged to change some, but it is not particularly stable. Sometimes it is necessary to restart the application to restore the default ratio.
There are also some applications that cannot change any proportions and display methods. For example, WeChat has always been the elongated appearance on that phone. Unlike the iPad version, there is a similar desktop application experience with a horizontal screen. This type of application is barely used on TNT GO, but for an indispensable application like WeChat, the part that is stronger than the computer version is the full-featured version, at least you can see Moments and Mini Programs.
In addition, TNT OS 2.0's new "Flip-Page Window" function can open multiple WeChat dialogs. For users who need to communicate with multiple people frequently, it is also a very convenient function to support drag and drop operation of picture files between multiple windows.
But this drag and drop function can only be achieved through touch operation at present. It is impossible to drag and drop pictures when using the mouse and keyboard. After the interaction is more friendly to the keyboard and mouse, the Nut team should solve the problem of this interaction detail.
Just live
The appearance and pseudo-physical design are still the most unique aspects of the JMGO phone. But for the JMGO phone itself and Smartisan OS, it has been parting ways with the current mainstream Android experience for a long time. Higher learning costs and worries about small brands raise the threshold of "new acquisition" too high, but for old users, these in-depth experience in the details should still be able to please them.
As I wrote in the title, when using the JMGO mobile phone, you should learn to be a typical user of JMGO mobile phone. You have to understand the logic of the mobile phone and the system, why the JMGO is always talking about efficiency and why Repeatedly adjust the user experience in very subtle places. This is actually something that a user who is used to iPhone and other domestic Android phones does not understand.
But I'm still very happy to see Wu Dezhou ridiculing himself as "The Nut Phone is still alive?" at the beginning of the game last night, because they can still laugh at themselves like this, which shows that they are still prepared to work hard to survive.
For the current nut mobile phone, there is nothing better than living, and nothing more difficult than living.
