Mercedes releases its first electric truck, “driver-friendly truck” goes online

Through the city, across the country, trucks are almost everywhere, regardless of the size of the goods, trucks are the most important way to transport goods.

At present, trucks almost bear more than 80% of the inland cargo transportation. In China, the European Union, Japan, the United States, and the CIS countries alone, more than 6 trillion tons of cargo are transported by trucks every year.

So, how can trucks miss the wave of electrification of cars?

Mercedes-Benz has been working hard to develop heavy-duty electric trucks, and on Wednesday, they launched the first electric heavy-duty truck-eActros.

The drive unit of this electric truck consists of two integrated liquid-cooled motors and a two-speed transmission. The maximum output power of the motor can reach 400kW, which can fully meet the needs of freight.

It is worth mentioning that this electric truck is still a "driver-friendly truck". Compared with ordinary diesel trucks, even when driving at full load, the noise in the cab is still reduced by 10dB, and the vibration is also significantly reduced.

eActros is equipped with four sets of batteries, each with a capacity of 105kWh and a maximum battery capacity of 420kWh, which can provide a cruising range of up to 400 kilometers.

At the same time, Mercedes is equipped with an aluminum protective plate on the side of eActros to protect the battery in the event of a side collision. And when the sensor detects a possible collision, the system will automatically separate the battery from the vehicle.

Regarding the charging speed of eActros, Mercedes claims that when connected to a 400A DC charging station, its power can be charged from 20% to 80% within an hour. In addition, Mercedes can also provide a smaller capacity The battery pack is suitable for short-distance transportation.

In order to promote the adoption of electric trucks by enterprises, Mercedes also provides a set of support services to help these logistics companies transition their fleets to electric vehicles.

These services include helping to establish basic charging settings and formulating the necessary operational plans to make the most of each electric truck.

In the field of electric trucks, eActros is undoubtedly the most cutting-edge existence, but it does highlight the problem faced by electric heavy-duty trucks: the size and weight of the battery are difficult to control.

Although Mercedes did not specify the weight of the battery on the eActros, it is likely to weigh several tons.

This is why many truck manufacturers are paying attention to hydrogen energy, and some people believe that hydrogen energy may be more suitable for long-distance heavy trucks, because hydrogen energy trucks usually have a higher range than electric trucks.

Mercedes plans to launch eActros this fall and start selling in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
