Google presents the new Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with the new Google Tensor chip

Google has finally presented its new Pixel smartphones: the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. Most of the features and aesthetics of these devices had already been seen in the many leaks and commercials shown in the past months but now the picture is finally complete and the devices are officially on the market.

The two new smartphones from Google intend to position themselves in the high end of the market, and in particular the 6 Pro is presented as a premium product. Both smartphones will arrive in Italy in the first part of 2022. Prices will be 649 euros for the Pixel 6 and 899 euros and 999 euros for the Pixel 6 Pro, which will come in 128GB and 256GB denominations.

Google Pixel 6

The first smartphone presented by Google is the Pixel 6. This device, the cheaper of the two presented today, has a renewed design. A 6.4-inch screen with a hole for the camera only and a refresh-rate of 90 Hz. The back is instead colored with pastel shades (in 3 different color combinations) and is crossed at the top by a black strip (the so-called " camera-bar ") which houses the two rear cameras (wide and ultrawide) of 50 and 12 megapixels.

Googke Pixel 6 Pro

During the conference it was defined as "the first flagship phone" from Google and judging by the price we can hardly believe it. The Google Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch display with refresh-rate up to 120Hz and a photographic compartment consisting of three rear cameras and a wide-angle front camera capable of shooting videos in 4K.

Two of the three rear cameras are the same as those of Pixel 6, to these has been added a third 48 megapixel camera that allows optical zooms up to 4x.

The design is similar to that of the younger brother, but the colors chosen are different. Under the body we have a 12 Gb Ram and it features "the largest battery ever on a Pixel".

The new Google Tensor chip

Both devices are equipped with the brand new Google Tensor chip, a SoC processor made directly in Google's home (in the wake of what Apple has been doing for years with its Smartphones and has also begun to do for its PCs).

The new SoCs will allow Google to guarantee performance optimization on its smartphones, guaranteeing the fluidity of the software and operating system that had impressed on the old Pixels (despite hardware not always top of the range).

Google Tensor chip

Many of the applications in which Google Tensor gives its best, concern the photographic sector. Thanks to this chip, the new Pixel 6 are able to record and correct videos in 4K at 60 fps. In addition, thanks to artificial intelligence, the new Google Camera app will be equipped with the Magic Eraser. This tool allows you to edit your shots by eliminating with a single touch the elements that do not interest us (people in the background or objects that clash with the context of the photo).

Another interesting tool is the Face Unblur. Thanks to AI and multi-cameras, the new Pixels are able to eliminate the “blur effect” from a photo by simultaneously taking two images and superimposing them in real time.

In the opposite direction, Motion Mode was conceived. Thanks to this feature it is possible to add a sensation of movement to photos without the need for long exposure times but simply by using Artificial Intelligence.

Finally, in the direction of inclusiveness and the enhancement of diversity, the Real Tone option was conceived. Thanks to this tool, taking advantage of the incredible capabilities of Google Tensor, Google cameras are able to recognize and reproduce all skin tones in an extremely faithful way, even in less than optimal lighting conditions.

Not just photography. The potential of Google Tensor is also expressed in the voice recognition functions. Taking advantage of Google's machine learning technology, the new Pixels are able to recognize dialects and accents. In addition, the voice writing function has been enhanced, which is now able to choose punctuation based on the pitch of the voice, as well as recognizing and transcribing the names we pronounce by choosing from those in our address book.

Google Translate's translation systems have also been improved using the new chip. For example, the Live Translate function allows you to see translated in real time a message dictated to your smartphone in your own language. This feature will also be available in many messaging apps like Whatsapp.
