Draghi Government: the Committee for digital transition is born
The Draghi government took office almost two weeks ago, precisely on 13 February, and the decree that it is about to present sanctions the reaction of an inter-ministerial committee for the digital transition . This sets important objectives in terms of development and technological and digital innovation, as the new premier had already declared.

The sudden outbreak of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 showed how Italy needed to upgrade and rethink its digital infrastructure . It was in fact necessary that, both in public and private work, most of the tasks had to be carried out remotely from home, the so-called smart working, but also the life of students was upset by the obligation of distance learning, the much feared DAD.
The need to be connected, perhaps in more people within the same house, has forced families to “strengthen themselves” from a technological point of view, and this upgrade will soon have to be carried out also on a national level.
Draghi Government: the composition of the digital transition committee
The committee will be responsible for guiding the so-called digital transition of our country in this rather difficult historical moment and will be chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers himself or by the Minister delegated for technological innovation and digital transition ( the newly appointed Minister Vittorio Colao ). He has the right to call it, determine the agenda of the meetings and define the implementation of the decisions taken.

If the issues addressed concern matters that also affect the regions and autonomous provinces, the president of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces or a president of the region or autonomous province delegated by him will also participate in the CITD meetings. In addition to the President of the Committee there will also be the Minister for Public Administration Renato Brunetta, the Minister of Economy and Finance Daniele Franco, the Minister of Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani, the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti and the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza .
The objective of the committee in terms of digital and technological innovation
The goal is to bring Italy into line with the policies, in a technological and digital key, proposed by the European Union , in particular in terms of:
- supercomputing , that is the adoption of computing systems with other performances;
- artificial intelligence ;
- cybersecurity ;
- extensive use of digital technologies .
Linked to the birth of the CITD there is also the creation of a committee for ecological transition (CITE), the two inter-ministerial committees conceived by the former head of the ECB will serve to coordinate the executive's action in view of the Recovery plan. The role of the CITD will be strategic since it will be up to this body to coordinate the key actions to give digital Italy, especially by leveraging funds from the Next Generation Eu, 20% of which must be used for innovation projects.
Now we will have to wait for the next few days to see what tasks will actually be assigned to the new Ministry for the digital transition, the powers that Minister Colao will receive and what will be the first measures taken. Meanwhile, Stefano Firpo was chosen as the head of the cabinet, who in the past had dealt with the Industry 4.0 plan, among other things . An appointment favorably judged by companies, as it represents Prime Minister Draghi's actual desire to focus on the nation's technological and digital development.
Italy has also decided to equip itself with a special tool to face the new challenge represented by Industry 4.0 and the necessary technological and digital development to be able to fully re-enter the great Western nations.
