At this exhibition, we saw 5 mobile phones that were released only two years later

A few years ago, an slogan from China Mobile made me remember: "4G changes life, 5G changes society".

With the development of mobile communication technology, profound changes have taken place in our daily necessities, food, shelter, transportation, industry and society. In the field of mobile communications, MWC (Mobile World Congress) is undoubtedly a window through which consumers can focus on cutting-edge communications technologies.

Under the influence of the new crown epidemic, MWC was shut down for a year last year. Fortunately, it returned this year. It was held in Shanghai from February 23 to 25. Although the scale of the exhibition is slightly smaller than before, the fresh products and technologies are still dizzying.

Among the exhibitors, there are regular customers of MWC OPPO, ZTE, Huawei, etc., as well as fresh faces such as realme. After taking a round of inventory, we picked out the following interesting products or technologies.

7.5W air charging is here

Among the products that OPPO exhibited at the conference this time, I personally feel that the most "black technology" is the air charging technology.

▲ Mobile phone floating charging

Previously, Xiaomi released wireless charging over the air, which supports 5W charging power. OPPO increased the charging power to 7.5W this time.

There are many differences between OPPO's plan and Xiaomi's. OPPO's air charging uses magnetic resonance. Users need to hold the phone at a certain angle on the side of the table with magnetic resonance wireless charging at the bottom to achieve air charging.

However, it is still unclear what specific requirements this charging method has for distance and angle. The technology demonstrations we have seen so far are realized with a scroll-screen concept machine with a special mobile phone case, which may still be some distance away from commercial use.

Speaking of this scroll screen phone, friends who follow Aifaner should be familiar with it. At OPPO's Future Technology Conference last year, we made a detailed interpretation of it .

In addition, the AR glasses exhibited at MWC this time were also showcased at last year's Future Technology Conference together with scroll-screen mobile phones. Although they are all concept products, in the actual experience, the completion is quite good.

Regarding flash charging technology, OPPO’s slogan is "All things can be flashed." In addition to air charging, 125W super flash charging and 65W AirVOOC wireless flash charging technologies were also exhibited at the conference.

The second-generation under-screen camera unveiled

If the strength of any current brand is seriously underestimated by the public, ZTE should be on the list.

In September last year, ZTE released the Tianji AXON 20, the world's first mobile phone equipped with an under-screen camera. Even though the technology is worth seeing, the market response is not satisfactory.

At this MWC, ZTE demonstrated its second-generation mass-produced under-screen camera technology.

Compared with the first-generation under-screen camera technology carried by the Tianji AXON 20, the second-generation first improved the screen ppi to 400, reaching the level of mid-to-high-end models. Judging from the real shots, the display effect is quite delicate, and the camera area is also well hidden.

For under-screen camera phones, it is more difficult than increasing pixel density to improve the functionality of the front camera. ZTE also debuted the 3D structured light technology under the screen. The 3D structured light is also hidden under the screen.

3D structured light is also an important technology of the current iPhone Face ID. It can emit near-infrared light. After data collection through an infrared camera, it can unlock the phone or make mobile payments, etc., which is safer than ordinary face unlocking technology.

According to GSMArena news, ZTE's Axon series will soon usher in a new machine, which is likely to be the Axon 30 series equipped with the second-generation under-screen camera technology.

However, the under-screen 3D structured light technology mentioned above may not be commercialized soon, at least it is difficult for us to see it on the Axon 30 series.

realme GT is coming soon

At this MWC, we also found a new face, which is the realme brand.

realme displayed its own full-scene AloT products in the exhibition area, including previously released mobile phones, earphones, power banks, toothbrushes, body fat scales, etc.

As a major consumer brand for young people, realme's products are also known for their "national tide" style that young people love to see. This time realme also displayed its own fashionable accessories at the exhibition, such as product luggage, "Zhenqi Miao" fashionable dolls and so on.

What's more interesting is Realme's upcoming GT flagship phone. Although there is no real machine on display at MWC, we already know what it looks like through on-site posters and official promotional images.

In addition to the appearance, the currently determined configuration also includes: Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ full blood version LPDDR5+UFS 3.1, 120Hz SuperAMOLED display, a new generation of tempered liquid cooling, and Wi-Fi 6 enhanced version.

In terms of price, due to the strength of the Redmi K40 Pro series, realme also announced that the pricing will start at less than 2,999 yuan, and the specifics will have to be announced at the press conference on March 4.

Huawei showcases new folding flagship

Different from the “New Phone Draft” that was concentrated in previous years, the focus of this year’s MWC conference is more on cutting-edge technologies and solutions, which is inevitably a bit unpleasant for consumers who are eager to see blockbuster new phones. .

Fortunately, Huawei has brought a new heavy folding screen machine-Huawei Mate X2, to quench the thirst of hardware enthusiasts.

At this MWC conference, Huawei officially exhibited this flagship phone with a folding screen, which was released on February 22. Mate X2 is equipped with Kirin 9000 chip and adopts new folding and hinge design. Once it is released, it will be sold out. It is hard to buy. Moutai.

Don't be discouraged if you haven't bought it. At least we can still see the true face of Mate X2 at the exhibition.

The Mate X2 has an external screen ratio of 21:9 and an area of 6.45 inches. It supports a high refresh rate of 90Hz and a P3 color gamut. The front camera is in the upper left corner of the screen and adopts a double hollow design. Take out the external screen alone, the parameters are already eye-catching enough, but you still have to open the Mate X2, the inside of the 8:7.1 8-inch large screen is its main body.

The internal screen resolution is 2480*2200, reaching 413 ppi. The display screen is not only large, but also delicate enough. There are no openings inside the screen, so the embarrassment of "adding moles" to the person in the picture is less when watching videos or reading pictures.

The hinge design is also eye-catching. Due to the characteristics of the folding screen, uneven design will appear when closing. Mate X2 uses the consistent double-rotating hinge design to bend the screen in a droplet shape, and finally realize the folding screen without The seam is closed, and the obsessive-compulsive friend just wants to like it.

Flexible screen, and these interesting solutions

Now that we talked about folding screen phones, we might as well focus our attention on the flexible screen inside.

Folding screen phones such as the Galaxy Fold series, Mate X series, and Razr series have evolved over the years. Folding screen phones have gradually become a mature category, and the "important hero" among them is the increasingly mature flexible screen technology.

At this MWC, TCL demonstrated a "Z-shaped" folding screen that can be folded twice, which can be said to be a play of flexible screens. This concept screen uses both "outward fold" and "inward fold" folding design, fully unfolded can reach 10.1 inches, much larger than the iPad mini.

The "Z-shaped" folding design can not only save the cost of additional external screens, but also maximize the advantages of large screens, so that it can be used as an ultra-large screen mobile phone, but also as an ultra-portable tablet, with one screen for multiple uses.

The other uses a double-inward fold folding form, with a virtual physical keyboard, which can be folded in half on the mobile phone-tablet-laptop multi-mode switch, pushing the concept of one screen with multiple functions to the extreme.

TCL also exhibited a four-curved frameless screen, which uses the characteristics of a flexible screen to bend the screen to the side, thereby achieving a visual effect of four-curved surfaces and four-frames with almost no traces, bringing a stronger visual impact .

5G is still the protagonist

At the MWC 2021 venue, the ubiquitous 5G Logo shows that the new generation of communication technology is still the protagonist of the communication industry.

With the expansion of 5G network coverage and the popularization of supporting equipment, 5G is entering a period of accelerated popularization, and the curiosity of consumers about 5G is changing from "how fast" to "what can".

In order to respond to consumers' needs for 5G acquisition, many new applications of 5G networks were demonstrated at this conference, and the "millimeter wave" technology was the focus of the conference.

5G is very fast, and the use of millimeter wave technology is like re-using "turbo boost" for the fast network. OPPO 5G CPE Omni, which uses millimeter wave transmission technology, conducted a speed measurement demonstration at the conference, and its downlink rate reached the highest level of 4.06Gbps, which can almost be called "invisible optical fiber."

What's the use of a faster rate? The answer may be found at the 5G ski booth created by China Unicom and Qualcomm and other manufacturers. With 5G millimeter wave technology, users can not only experience the charm of AR skiing, but also use a larger bandwidth to watch 8K videos.

From the perspective of live broadcast, the faster wireless transmission brought by 5G millimeter wave also makes it possible to replace wired live broadcast. Cameras can appear in more places to bring viewers live broadcasts from different perspectives, such as drones and headsets. Cameras and other angles can broadcast sports events from more angles and closer distances, providing a more diverse viewing experience.

Compared with the familiar Sub-6GHz frequency band, 5G millimeter wave technology has the characteristics of faster speed, lower delay, and higher positioning accuracy. According to the measured data, the 5G millimeter wave rate can reach almost 11 times that of the Sub-6GHz frequency band.

At present, millimeter wave technology has been commercialized in many regions, and China Unicom also stated that the domestic industry is conducting a large number of tests and verifications to accelerate the large-scale commercial deployment of 5G millimeter wave. It is believed that we will be able to enjoy the millimeter wave band in the near future. The bandwidth bonus coming is worth looking forward to.

▲"Harmony and symbiosis" is the theme of this MWC conference

In general, due to the control of the number of people during the epidemic, the MWC conference, which returned after a year’s absence, was a bit less busy than in the past, and there was more cooperation in the collaborative development of 5G technology. For example, the cooperation between terminal vendors such as Qualcomm, OPPO, and Huawei has jointly promoted the development of new 5G technologies at the enterprise level.

And friends who feel that there are too few new phones at this MWC conference and have not seen it, need not be disappointed. March is about to usher in a large wave of new phones. Heavy models such as Meizu 18, OnePlus 9, OPPO Find X3 will all arrive, and Aifaner will interpret it for you as soon as possible.
