After having discovered the very first details regarding the alleged Mini model of the series, let’s take a look at the features and technical specifications of the next ASUS ZenFone 8 and 8 Pro , the new flagships of the Asian manufacturer coming this year. What can we expect on this tour? Will we still have a flip camera?
ASUS ZenFone 8 and 8 Pro: here’s what we know about the new flagships
Design and display
At the time of writing it is not known whether the new ASUS ZenFone 8 and 8 Pro will keep the design of their predecessors – therefore with a rotating camera – or will move on more traditional tracks. The two smartphones have been identified with the initials ZS672KS / I004D and ZS675KW / I007D and with the codenames PICASSO and VODKA , respectively for the basic model and the older brother Pro. Just like in the case of the Mini, the various details come from the code ASUS PixelMaster Camera app, so they could prove to be quite reliable.
Speaking of displays, the PICASSO model comes with a 6.67 ″ Samsung AMS667UU07 OLED panel, with Full HD + resolution (2499 x 1080 pixels). Apparently the front will not be very different from the previous generation , characterized by a similar display. The refresh rate is not specified but given that ZenFone 7 has reached 90 Hz it is legitimate to imagine a similar or increased frequency, as in the case of the Mini ( 120 Hz ). The 7 and 7 Pro models are equipped with the same display, so we could hypothesize a similar choice also in this round.
Talking about chipsets is very obvious: obviously both ASUS ZenFone 8 and the 8 Pro model will have on board the Snapdragon 888 , Qualcomm’s latest top solution, made at 5 nm, with an octa-core Kryo 680 CPU (1 x 2.84 GHz + 3 x 2.42 GHz + 4 x 1.8 GHz), an Adreno 660 GPU and a 5G modem. Impossible not to expect at least 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. For the battery, the current models offer a 5,000 mAh unit with 30W charging, but for now there are no rumors on this side.
triple Flip camera from 64 + 12 + 8 MP, f / 1.8-2.2-2.4 aperture with 113 ° wide angle, telescopic sensor and 3x optical zoom (12x hybrid); video up to 8K 30 FPS;
The new models in the top range of ASUS should present a nice addition, going from a triple camera to a Quad Camera. However, it would be a configuration not unlike what we saw with the 7 series: we will therefore have a main sensor from 64 MP Sony IMX686 accompanied by a 12 MP Sony IMX363 wide angle (+ macro) and an 8 MP OV08A telephoto lens (with at least a 3X optical and 12X digital zoom). The fourth sensor is a 24 MP OV24B1Q module: the ASUS software code that “inspired” this leak refers to a front sensor.
It remains to be seen therefore whether this wording represents a clue for the absence of the flip camera (and therefore for a distortion of the design of the series) or a simple indicative string.
ASUS ZenFone 8 and 8 Pro – Price and release date
Obviously talking about the price and release date of ASUS ZenFone 8 and 8 Pro is quite premature: there are still no rumors but if we want to have some figures in front of our eyes, remember that the 7 and 7 Pro models debuted – respectively – at € 699 and € 799 . Regarding the debut, if ASUS follows the trend of last year we can expect a launch during the summer 2021 .
